Evolution Feb 2012An idea inspired to keep the Portsmouth music scene alive, formerly known as Project Anarchy, was devised at the beginning of 2010 and came to fruition in late 2010.
The original concept was to re-launch an alternative night at South Parade Pier but with a difference; the difference was that we wanted to stage live bands also, thus adding a further spin to the night! Before this could happen an offer from The Wedgewood Rooms came to light and was accepted. As we evolved so did the name...hence Evolution! We are a celebration of all genres or rock and alternative music. Expect to see some of the hottest talent performing live onstage with our resident club DJs ♫ ❄ Evolution @ The Wedgewood Rooms ❄ ♫ I can guarantee you that we will feature the biggest and best bands that Portsmouth has to offer and the bands have assured me that they will all be bringing more volume than a pensioners telly ! So make sure you stay tuned to this event and the concert tour page where I will be releasing more info on the confirmed artists in the coming days... ♫*Dendera *♫ http://www.facebook.com/DenderaUK "You guys were one of the best opening acts on our tour! You all have great stage prescence and are awesome musician! Im sure great things are coming soon!" (Andrew Cushing - Taking Dawn) "Killer riffs. Sick vocals, You lot have a future!!" (Bill Steer - Carcass) “Dendera has all the energy of a young Def Leppard and the prowess of early Iron Maiden. They are the modern embodiment of the spiritof the NWOBHM, and fucking pleasure rock with live. Talented beyond their years” ( Chris Babbitt – Taking Dawn) "Dendera was one of my favorite support bands on the tour. Young dudes and already tight and killer on their instruments and vox. Killer old school sound done well!" (Mikey Cross - Taking Dawn) ♫* Mutant Vinyl*♫ Free Download of Acid Honey Available Here ! http://www.facebook.com/mutantvinyl Hailed for their captivating live performances, Mutant Vinyl travel through Massive Attack, Prince & John Coltrane to bring beats, hooks & black Saxophones. ♫*Contra*♫ http://www.facebook.com/pages/Contra/202877986421987?sk=info With Contra the first thing that grabs you is the crunching guitars and crashing symbols. But the more you listen, its their swirling sense of melody that captures you and keeps you locked in. This hook laden, riff filled rock and roll will pick you up and take you on a journey through the last 2 decades, spittting you out somewhere entirely new. With influences ranging from Megadeth to Pulled apart by Horses, through Queens of the stoneage and Nirvana, Contra are a many headed beast. With a powerful weathered sound honed through years on the hampshire pub and club scene they still keep a fragile melody at the heart of (almost) everything they do. Some tracks will grab you straight away, some build slowly inside you - either way Contra are well worth the few quid entrance or download fee. ♫*Mask Of Judas*♫ http://www.facebook.com/pages/Mask-of-Judas/81784658617 "MOJ’s technical guitar attack is perfectly complimented by roaming progressive bass lines, off kilter drum patterns and one of the most versatile female vocals on the scene… Imagine witnessing an argument between Angela Gossow (Arch Enemy) and Skin (Skunk Anansie) and having the balls to tape it!" - The Origin Agency "Singer Jo immediately captures the attention and ensures the crowd are fully engaged with an amazingly heavy performance. Plenty of tempo changes and lighting finger work on 8-string guitars gives even a gig-veteran like myself something new and amazing to marvel at. This band are definitely one of the most exciting and impressive metal bands in the South" Neil Duncan Issuepunkzine Plus Evolution DJ's Spinning You All Of The Your Favorite Alternative Rock Songs From Across The Ages Right Up Until 2:30 am. All this for a fiver !!!!! Baaargain ! See you at Evolution soon! Main influences range between Grunge, Blues and Hard Rock, culminating in infectious melodies, anthemic hooks, and some classic rock riffs to make KODIAK JACK one of the most exciting new outfits on the South Coast. Ever the consumate live act, playing venues across the south and supporting upcoming acts like Specrum7, Everything Everything, New Device and Kobra and the Lotus and international artist Paul Gilbert (Mr Big and Racer X). The winning combination of a hernia-inducing rhythm section, screaming solos and some of the most dynamic vocals since Scott Weiland have given the band a fearsome local live reputation that is growing by the day. Their Bunny Girl and THEM EPs have sold out and the sales of the Crossfire EP (download only from iTunes/Amazon) are growing in pace. The full album is due for release in June and is being described as an undulating, tumultuous nugget of squalling guitars, pile-driving rhythm and epic vocals, boasting sordidly huge hooks and a chorus so catchy that it should be quarantined. With more gigs and a second release to shortly follow, keep an eye on KODIAK JACK.
